For the third year in a row, the Missouri River has been the scene of the world's longest continuous paddler's race - the Missouri River 340. Stretching from Kansas City to St. Charles, the race tests the endurance of kayakers and canoists from around the world as they battle the heat, insects, wierd river currents, barge traffic and the limits of their own bodies for 340 miles of the beautiful Big Muddy.

This presentation will open with a viewing of "Down River & Up Hill", a documentary on the race produced by 2008 racer Jodi Pfeffercorn. The film is a personal, on-the-river view of the race across Missouri.

Following the film will be some short talks and question & answer sessions from the film producer, race organizer Scott Mansker and some local racers. If you're thinking of participating in the race or want to know how you or your business can volunteer to help out, it's a great chance to get a sneak peek and ask questions about it.

(By the way...if you want to race in 2009, race sign-up begins on January 1. sunriseboatrampCheck out rivermiles.com, the home website for the race, for more information. )

"Down River & Up Hill" DVD's will be available for purchase at the event.

So grab a drink and a snack at the Uprise Bakery, head into the theater, and dream about summer on the river!
